From 1 January 2027, new legislation mandates that all smoke alarms must adhere to Australian Standard 3786-2014. Furthermore, existing smoke alarms must be upgraded to interconnected smoke alarms.

Ensure the correct number and type of alarms are installed, interconnected and positioned correctly (according to QLD legislation)
The inspection is suitable for vendors selling their property who's property already meets the requirements of the new 2022 QLD smoke alarm legislation
Smoke alarm compliance report emailed within 24 hours of inspection
Please note any upgrades or rectification works (e.g. moving an alarm) may incur a charge

Clean, check and test all smoke alarms at the property and change 9v batteries where required
Mark each compliant smoke alarm (or 3v group) with a sticker showing the date tested and a 24hr contact mobile phone number if any issues arise with the alarms
Remove any expired/faulty alarms not necessary for compliance, or if unable to remove - a sticker marked “not required for compliance” will be placed on the alarm.
Replace any 2022 compliant smoke alarms needed for QLD legislation from $99 inc gst per alarm or cover under warranty where applicable
Re-locate any incorrectly positioned smoke alarms at no additional charge (if wireless)
Safety switch located and tested
Smoke alarm compliance report emailed within 24hs of the inspection, describing the location, type and expiry date of each smoke alarm at the property and the date the property was inspected

**Subscriptions do not include replacing smoke alarms (unless under warranty) or moving hard wired (240V) smoke alarms.

** Where Be Legal cannot complete the warranty work, the property manager or landlord may need to refer to the original installer. Alternatively, Be Legal can replace these alarms for an additional cost.

**Please note additional charges may apply if compliance checks are not completed within the allocated time frame due to factors such as the number of bedrooms, the number of blinds, or dual living/granny flat scenarios.

Why Do I Need To Upgrade My Alarms?

All existing private homes, townhouses, and units must have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed by 1 January 2027. Additionally, all registered caravans and motorhomes are required to have a photoelectric smoke alarm.

As of 1 January 2027, legislation mandates that all smoke alarms comply with Australian Standard 3786-2014. Existing smoke alarms must be replaced with interconnected smoke alarms to meet this standard.

Smoke alarms must:

be photoelectric.
comply with the Australian Standard. ( alarm must be marked with AS3786-2014.)
be hardwired (e.g. 240v) to the mains power supply with a secondary power source (i.e. non removable 10 year battery) or; be powered by 10 year non-removable batteries type photoelectric smoke alarm.
be interconnected with every other smoke alarm in the dwelling so all activate together.
must not contain an ionisation sensor.
