Avoid Smoke Alarm Penalties When Selling Your Home

Selling your home can be an overwhelming endeavor. Between finalizing repairs, completing paperwork, and organizing removals, the to-do list feels never-ending. The last thing you need is another task, especially one that can lead to hefty penalties.

In Queensland, failing to have interconnected photoelectric smoke alarms installed in all bedrooms and legally required locations can result in penalties of up to 0.15% of your property’s sale price. We understand that smoke alarm compliance can be a daunting responsibility during an already stressful time.

But here’s the good news – we’ve got you covered. Introducing our Sellers Compliance Service. Let us take the stress away and ensure a smooth sale from only $119 per alarm for upgrades or a once off $99 if you believe your property meets requirements.

  • Installation of Alarms: Our experts install alarms meeting AS3786:2014 in the correct locations as required by legislation, all for just (from) $119 per alarm.
  • Product Warranty: Rest easy knowing that alarms installed by Be Legal come with a product warranty.
  • Compliance Report: Receive a comprehensive compliance report following your property’s upgrade.
  • Qualified Field Team: All work is conducted by our qualified field team to ensure compliance with state and federal legislation.

How Many Alarms Do you Need Installed and What Will It Cost?

The cost depends on the number of alarms required, which is determined by the number of bedrooms and stories in your property, as well as the location of bedroom exit points. Use our convenient online quote and booking tool to determine the exact number of alarms you need and the associated cost.

Why Upgrade Your Smoke Alarms

Upgrading your home’s smoke alarms enhances your family’s safety in case of a fire. Interconnected alarms and alarms in bedrooms ensure that everyone is alerted to a fire, even if they are asleep with bedroom doors closed. This gives you and your family more time to escape safely.

Upgraded means that your home meets the latest requirements of the Fire and Emergency Services (Domestic Smoke Alarms) Amendment Bill 2016. By 2027, all dwellings in Queensland must comply with the following:

  • Photoelectric (AS 3786-2014) smoke alarms
  • Interconnected alarms: If one goes off, they all go off
  • Smoke alarms not older than ten years
  • Smoke alarms installed in each bedroom
  • Smoke alarms installed in hallways outside of bedrooms
  • If no hallway, smoke alarms must be in the most likely path of escape

Book a Pre-Sale Inspection for Compliance Certificates

Please note that if a Queensland property being sold requires installation or replacement of interconnected bedroom alarms to comply, this needs to be processed under our Sellers Compliance Service and will be an additional cost from $119 per alarm.
